Malleus Maleficarum (The Witche’s Hammer)
The Malleus Maleficarum was written by Heinrich Kramer and Jacob Sprenger in 1486, members of the Dominican Order and Inquisitors for the Catholic Church. The Malleus Maleficarum was the manual for hundreds of so-called “holy” men , to abuse there fellow woman. Sure there where men that were also persecuted but far more women where killed, murdered and buried in some unmarked grave.
The Catholic Church banned the book in 1490, placing it on the Index Librorum Prohibitorum. Despite this, the Malleus Maleficarum became the de-facto handbook for witch-hunters and Inquisitors throughout Late Medieval Europe and the church has yet to apologize for the hundreds of years of women-genocide. Although they did not mean to completely kill off women, that would have been very stupid indeed, they did mean to control women from free thought, free speech and just freedom in general.
This book fascinates and infuriates as well as puts a little fear in me. Why must men treat women like lesser creatures?
